3 January 2019 Newsbrief 42 New Provisional Date for Hearings

We hope you all had a great Christmas! As promised here is the link to the now published Lancaster Guardian article on Richard McCoy’s,(the Planning Inspector), letters to the City Council regarding their handling of the Local Plan.

Lancaster Guardian, 21 December 2018

Bearing in mind the degree of irritation in the letters sent to the City Council on 19 November and 10 December https://www.lancaster.gov.uk/planning/planning-policy/examination-stage

are you satisfied with the Lancaster City Council’s response in the Lancaster Guardian article? Here Janice Hanson states: “It is not at all unusual for local plan hearing sessions to be postponed or even suspended once they have begun. Often the inspector will open examination hearing sessions and then decide that they should be suspended for further work to take place”.

What is more unusual is for attempts to be made to modify the Local Plan after it has been submitted and for a council to have to be told twice about this by an increasingly frustrated Planning Inspector. In addition the plan was known by councillors and officers to be under-developed when pushed through council over a year ago.

If you feel a sense of dismay and frustration at the City Council’s handling of the Local Plan generally and the time wasting involved in the October ‘modifications’, writing into the Lancaster Guardian in response to the article, could be a great way to ensure these issues continue to be raised and discussed.

You can contact the editor either by letter or email- I would send as letter to the Editor with Nick Lakin, the journalist who wrote the article copied in https://www.lancasterguardian.co.uk/contact-us
